In an effort to help Madagascar realize its Education for All objectives, Ambatovy has teamed up with UNICEF to bring quality education closer to the children of Madagascar in a way that respects the environment. With Ambatovy’s financial support and UNICEF’s technical expertise, four new eco-friendly schools will be constructed in the regions of Atsinanana and Alaotra-Mangoro.
“Education, youth, child protection are areas that we take to heart,” said Ambatovy’s President, Mark Plamondon. “Ambatovy is pleased to contribute to this initiative as it contributes to the development and well-being of communities.”
The $400,000 project will provide both children and the community an opportunity to learn how it can use local products and innovative technology to build sustainable schools in their community.
Taking a community-based approach, representatives from the community, schools, parents associations and government will be involved in the decision-making and developing a committee to monitor and maintain the schools once construction is complete.
Construction will begin the week of November 19 and is expected to be completed in February 2013.
