On November 6, 2012, Ambatovy’s refined nickel successfully left the docks at the Port of Toamasina, representing the first shipment to be sold on the international market.

The first shipment of finished product is an important milestone for Ambatovy, just as it is for Madagascar. Nickel is expected to become the top export for the country,” said Ambatovy President, Mark Plamondon.

It was a day to celebrate, especially for Madagascar, a country that has and will continue to reap the benefits associated with supplying the world with high-quality nickel and cobalt. Unlike other projects in sub-Saharan Africa, Ambatovy fully refines its products in-country, which generates additional local benefits, such as technology transfer, employment and capacity building.Exporting the nickel and cobalt will generate significant economic returns for Madagascar.
While contributing to national development, Ambatovy continues to operate in a transparent way and in compliance with standards according to its Vision.

The first shipment of refined cobalt is expected shortly.
