Compensation and Resettlement

From December 2007 to February 2008, Ambatovy had to resettle villagers living in the vicinity of the Tailings Management Facility and Plant Site into two communities, Vohitrambato and Marovato. Now, nearly 15 years later, we continue to be active in these communities, collaborating closely with community members to identify sustainable, community driven projects to ensure local development continues. This support focuses on livelihoods (vegetable gardening, handicrafts, small animal husbandry, etc.), health and hygiene, education and sustainable forestry.  For example, as part of our commitment to the community in Vohitrambato, Ambatovy provides financial support for children under the age of 13 in the village to attend school, and to promote health education and combat malnutrition, we recently supported the development of a school gardening program and community nutrition center in Vohitrambato.
