Moramanga, March 6, 2020. Ambatovy handed over two equipped ambulances and medical consumables with a total value of USD 150,000 (approximately 550 million Ariary), respectively to the District Reference Hospital Center (CHRD) of Moramanga and the Moramanga Intercompany Medical Service (SMIMO), on March 6, 2020.

This initiative aims to strengthen the operational capacity of these health establishments to respond to emergencies and is part of the USD 25 million Social Investment Fund (SIF) set up in 2012 by Ambatovy to finance social and infrastructure projects in the regions where the company operates, namely Alaotra Mangoro and Atsinanana. The SIF comprises 17 projects largely resulting from consultation between the regions, the Government and Ambatovy. The majority of these projects have been carried out in recent years. Each of the two ambulances is equipped with the medical equipment required for emergency medical evacuations.

“At Ambatovy, health and safety are fundamental priorities, not only for all our employees, but also in our contributions to community development. Health for the benefit of as many people as possible and according to their needs is a priority in our community development strategy and, as much as possible, we contribute to driving and promoting the development of public and community health in our intervention areas. In this context, Ambatovy particularly supports operational capacity building to respond to health emergencies,” said Ambatovy’s Sustainability Vice-President, Philippe Beaulne, during the official ambulance handover ceremony in Moramanga.

The donation follows other initiatives taken by the company to support the Moramanga CHRD, including the construction of a hospital incinerator, the provision of hospital beds and the construction of a section of asphalt road to improve access to the hospital.

Health, Safety and Hygiene are part of Ambatovy’s top priorities in its efforts to implement sustainable development in its intervention areas.
