Moramanga, 14 August 2026. A total of 2,730 residents of the Fokontany of Ampitambe, in the rural commune of Ambohibary, Moramanga, now have access to safe drinking water following the completion of a new gravity-fed drinking water supply system funded by Ambatovy. The facilities were officially inaugurated in Ampitambe, Moramanga, on August 14, 2026.
This project expands Ambatovy’s ongoing efforts to improve the living conditions of communities surrounding its facilities and responds to a need identified through discussions with the local community and the Ampitambe Native’s Association.
“Access to drinking water makes a very significant difference in people’s daily lives. With water now available closer to people’s homes, families will spend less time and effort collecting water while benefiting from improved conditions for hygiene and sanitation. This is the kind of practical and lasting legacy we want to leave in the communities around our operations”, said Nicolas Descraques, Social Investment and Community Engagement Manager at Ambatovy during the inauguration ceremony.
Launched in September 2025, the project includes a water catchment system with a reinforced concrete dam and filtration system; a water reservoir; and a distribution network supplying 13 standpipes across the villages of Ampitambe, Ambohitranivo, Amparifohy, and Ambohinierenana.
Designed to operate through gravity, the system provides a sustainable solution to the needs of a growing population.
This project contributes to Ambatovy’s boarder commitment to supporting sustainable development and also supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, which promotes safe drinking water and sanitation for all.
