On September 12 2023, Ambatovy signs an agreement with the Regional Nutrition Office (Office Régional de Nutrition, ORN), to provide support for the establishment of school canteens in 10 schools in the districts of Toamasina I and Toamasina II, over a 3-year period. The project includes 8 primary schools (Vohitrambato, Ampihaonana, Soamahatsinjo, Tanandava, Amboakarivo, Ampasimadinika, Fanandrana, Tanambao) and 2 preschools (Tsaratsiry and Romialo), and targets a total of 2,500 students.
The main objective of this initiative is to improve academic performance by enhancing the nutritional status of the students.
This current agreement stems from a previous collaboration in 2018, where support was provided to set up school canteens in Vohitrambato, Ampihaonana, and Soamahatsinjo primary schools. Thanks to this initial collaboration, the rate of chronic malnutrition decreased from 74% at the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year to 43% by the end of the year.
