Toamasina, June 29, 2023.
The official handover of the Communal Development Plans (CDPs) to the rural communes affected by Ambatovy’s activities and the Communal Investment Plans (CIPs) to the urban communes of Toamasina and Moramanga took place on June 29, 2023, in Toamasina.
These documents are the result of a participatory process involving the communities and local and regional authorities and are a working tool that will enable the communes to successfully carry out their development projects. Ambatovy is pleased to have supported this project, which was conducted with technical support from the NGO, SAHA, through the Tsara Tantana Project, one of the projects financed by Ambatovy’s Social Investment Fund (SIF).
“This support is vital for promoting socially responsible investment and good governance within communes and intercommunality, with a view to local and sustainable development for the benefit of the greatest number of people”, emphasized Philippe Beaulne, Vice President in charge of Government and External Relations, Ambatovy Communications, during the PCD handover ceremony in Toamasina.
Thirteen communes in the Atsinanana Region, including the Communes of Amboditandroho, Toamasina Suburbaine, Fanandrana, Ampasimadinika, Ranomafana Est, Ampasimbe, Antsapanana, Razanaka, Brickaville, Vohitranivona, Ambalarondra, Ambinaninony, Anivorano Est, and the commune of Morarano Gara in the Alaotra Mangoro Region received their CDPs on June 29, 2023. It should be noted that the CDPs for the other communes affected by Ambatovy were already handed over in 2020.
As a reminder, Ambatovy set up a $25 million Social Investment Fund (SIF) in 2012 to finance social development and infrastructure projects in the regions where it operates. These projects are approved in consultation with relevant communities and the Malagasy government. The Tsara Tantana Project is one of the projects financed by the SIF to support good local governance as part of the sustainable development process for future generations.
