The farmers in the Harenasoa Project, one of the projects financed by Ambatovy’s Social Investment Fund are now autonomous and professionals thanks to the different technical and financial supports they have received from Ambatovy.
Specialized in broiler production, these farmers are grouped in four associations established in four rural municipalities in the Districts of Brickaville and Toamasina II, namely the associations FMAFNA Ampasimadinika, TARATRA Antsampanana, FIMABRI from Brickaville and MPIMIDIA from Ambinaniony. They are now working closely with professionals in the sector to improve their production quality, to guarantee the product commercialization and to ensure input provision. A cooperative was then set up to create an economy of scale.
8,000 chickens were sold in June 2016. Moreover, in order to enhance the farmers’ technical capacity, Ambatovy funded training sessions on livestock breeding, composting and horticulture techniques followed by an exchange visit with other farmers in Analamanga, Mahitsy and Bevalala. The training is mainly aimed at valorizing the manure produced from the farms in horticulture and other crops.
