On Thursday 21st June 2012, Ambatovy had the pleasure of welcoming seven members of the Order of Physicians National Council (CNOM, in French) along with three delegates from the Order of Physicians Regional Council (CROM, in French) to the Plant Site in Toamasina.
Ambatovy strives to effectively engage stakeholders and aims to support an environment of open communication and trust; consequently it was with great pleasure that the visiting CNOM & CROM Physicians, led by their President, Dr. FideleSamison, were shown around various Ambatovyproject sites.
“We’ve heard a lot about Ambatovy, so we’ve come to see with our own eyes, what it is all about”, said Dr. Samison.
Areas visited include the Information Centre in Tamatave, the Plant Site, the Ambatovy Clinic (ISOS), located within the Plant Site and the Training Centre. During their visitthey had the opportunity to meet and discuss with health care staff from the ISOS Clinic and find out more about the infrastructures in place regarding healthcare for Ambatovy employees. “Ambatovy is well-equipped medically,” the doctor said after his visit. “It’s the first time that we’ve seen such a large processing plant like this in Madagascar, I hope it will bring prosperity to the country.”
As the employees are their most important asset, Ambatovy prides itself in investing in their long-term well-being, and the health and safety of all its employees, contractors and neighbouring communities; this is one of the company’s top priorities. Standards are rigorous and Ambatovy’s ‘zero incident’ policy provides the framework that guides every staff member’s day-to-day commitment to a safe working environment, with significant resources being expended annually to manage and minimize safety risks.
The majority of Ambatovy’s project sites are open to visitors including the general public, students, teachers; bus tours of the Plant Site can also be arranged for special groups. Since January 2012, Ambatovy has received 3,500 visitors at the Mine Site in Moramanga and the Plant Site in Toamasina.
