As part of post-cyclone recovery efforts, and in support of the most affected populations, Ambatovy handed over 60.5 tons of basic supplies to the BNGRC to assist vulnerable communities in Toamasina.
This donation consisted of 25 tons of rice, 15 tons of beans, 7.5 tons of sugar, 7,500 liters of cooking oil, and 5.5 tons of soap, providing essential items to meet the priority needs of affected families.
“The passage of Cyclone Gezani has deeply affected Toamasina and has also impacted Ambatovy’s operations. One thing is clear: recovery can only be achieved through collective action and strong partnerships. Through this contribution, we have chosen to provide concrete and immediate support to the communities of Toamasina, in coordination with the authorities, to help restore normal life and strengthen the resilience of the population,” said Lasmaydha Siregar, Ambatovy’s Director of Human Capital Development & Business Support.
This donation is part of a broader, structured response launched in the aftermath of the cyclone. Key actions have included a 10-day city clean-up program that helped rapidly restore access routes and improve sanitary conditions, the provision of a generator for the pediatric unit at Analakininina University Hospital, the rehabilitation of a water pump for the BNGRC, and the removal of a crane blocking traffic on Pont Fotsy.
Beyond immediate support, this initiative reflects Ambatovy’s long-term commitment to its host communities and its engagement to contribute, alongside all its stakeholders, to the recovery efforts in the region.
