To support members of village associations in its intervention areas develop income-generating activities, Ambatovy is helping them to establish financial systems managed by the villagers themselves, within their respective associations. Currently, 54 village associations in the Districts of Toamasina II and Moramanga are being assisted by the company and are adopting systems to enable their members to benefit from financial services such as savings and access to credit. These systems allow members to receive funding for their projects without having to mortgage a property, as is sometimes the case for the larger financial institutions such as banks. These systems will also protect them from the deception of traditional loan sharks.
