For the year 2013, Ambatovy’s mobile medical consultations continue in collaboration with the Health Service of the Moramanga District. Last week, the first batch of consultations was performed in Ambohimanarivo, in the District of Moramanga. 290 people received general medical consultations, 56 patients received medical care and dental extractions, 104 people were tested for HIV / AIDS, and a total of 500 people were sensitized. For the zone around Ambatovy’s tailings area, about 400 people were sensitized, 300 received general consultations, 59 patients received dental consultations, appropriate care, and dental extraction, six children were immunized, and 70 people were tested for HIV/AIDS.

Last year, the awareness campaign lasted 6 months: 1,270 people were sensitized during seven mobile consultations on various health issues such as malaria, hygiene, and HIV-AIDS. 1,234 people received free consultations and care, 50 children were vaccinated, 595 people were tested, 189 received dental consultations and care, 439 people went through dental extractions, and 400 mosquito nets were distributed. The objective was for Ambatovy to provide the residents of Ambatovy’s Mine, including children, with preventive and curative health care by going directly to them. These activities fall under the Ambatovy’s Health Programme, which has the objective to “contribute to the improvement of the health status of the population in its intervention areas”.
