Moramanga, November 25, 2020
To contribute to sustainable development in its intervention areas, Ambatovy officially handed over Communal Development Plans and spatial development plans to the communes located in the District of Moramanga, on November 25, 2020. The documents consist of four PCDs for the rural communes of Ambohibary, Andasibe, Ambatovola, Beforona; a community planning; a Communal Development Program for Morarano Gara; and a spatial planning for all six communes, including the Urban Commune of Moramanga. The said documents were elaborated within the framework of the Tsaratantana Project initiated by the Malagasy State and which is implemented in collaboration with the SAHA NGO through Ambatovy’s Social Investment Fund (SIF).
“As part of our continued support for local and sustainable development, this initiative remains vital in the promotion socially responsible investments and good governance within the communes and community groups”, declared Philippe Beaulne, Ambatovy’s Vice-President for Sustainable Development, during the handover ceremony. The Districts of Toamasina I and II received theirs on November 16, 2020.
It should be recalled that Ambatovy set up a Social Investment Fund (SIF) of $25 million in 2012 to finance social and infrastructure projects in the regions of Atsinanana and Alaotra Mangoro. The Tsaratantana Project, financed through the SIF, aims to strengthen community capacity building in the management of the mining royalties they receive to ensure sustainable development for future generations.
