In order to contribute to the improvement of educational infrastructure and the quality of education in the Atsinanana Region, Ambatovy renovated the workshops for Carpentry, Metal Structure, Building & Public Works, General Mechanics and Auto Mechanics of the Technical and Vocational High School in Toamasina. These renovated facilities were officially handed to the LTP during an official ceremony attended by the President of the Republic of Madagascar, Mr. Hery Rajaonarimampianina, the Minister of Work, Technical and Vocational Training, Ms. Toto Raharimalala Marie Lydia and Ambatovy’s President, Tim Dobson, on October 29, 2016.
“Technical and vocational training is among the development pillars and we know that it is also of a particular importance to the Government of Madagascar. Ambatovy also knows that the Government has the will to put young people who are ready-to- work on the market. Therefore, it is quite natural that this is also among Ambatovy’s priorities in its actions to support sustainable development in the regions impacted by its activities. Ambatovy is proud to contribute to improving the infrastructure that will prepare the future talent of the Atsinanana Region,” said Louis Roland-Gosselin, Vice-President, Sustainability, Ambatovy.
Funded by the Ambatovy’s Social Investment Fund for an amount of USD 400,000 (approximately Ariary 1.2 billion), the renovation of the LTP workshops is part of Ambatovy’s voluntary contributions to supporting sustainable development in Madagascar. The renovation of these workshops is accompanied by the upgrading of electrical installations and the construction of two sanitary facilities for the staff and students. It should be noted that the renovation of these workshops will contribute to the improvement of the students’ skills and will make them immediately ready once they arrive on the labor market.
As a reminder, Ambatovy set up a Social Investment Fund worth USD 25 million, in 2012, to finance social and infrastructure projects in the company’s host regions. Projects are selected in consultation with the regional authorities and the Government of Madagascar in order to contribute to the social and economic development of the populations in these regions. 17 projects were identified and financed out of the Social Investment Fund, including the donation of two generators of 12,3MW for JIRAMA in Toamasina, the renovation of the Bazary Be market, the granting of two fire trucks for firefighters in the Urban Municipality of Toamasina, the construction of municipal markets in Brickaville and Moramanga, as well as other projects in the Atsinanana and Alaotra Mangoro Regions.
