On July 4 and 5, Ambatovy welcomed two groups of community leaders from Moramanga: the Notables and Executives Council and the Local Coordination Committee (CLC, in French).
Committee representatives toured Ambatovy’s Mine and Plant site as well as Toamasina’s port where Ambatovy built a substantial pier extension and state-of-the-art equipment for handling the importation of raw materials.
While discovering for themselves how Ambatovy’s facilities operate, the two-day tour also allowed Moramanga’s leaders to exchange information and express any concerns with Ambatovy.
Ambatovy’s senior managers met them to discuss various issues interesting the community relating to the environment, local procurement and infrastructure.
Therefore, the Notables and Executives Council desires the formal conclusion of an agreement on the benefits generated by Ambatovy.
The Local Coordination Committee (CLC) highlighted the works of its four sub-committees, namely socio-economic development, recruitment, emergencies, monitoring and evaluation. The Local Coordination Committee (CLC) members emphasized that their role is to be the main advisory body for all development projects and activities undertaken by Ambatovy in Moramanga.
It should be noted that the Local Coordination Committee (CLC) was put in place by regional authorities in 2010 to serve as a consultation and development platform between the Government, local communities, and Ambatovy in order to maximize Ambatovy’s positive impacts.
A similar committee, the Regional Coordination Committee (CRC), exists in Toamasina. It has almost the same mandate as the one in Moramanga.
