Ambatovy’s programme to repopulate the endemic Mantella aurantiaca frog is well under way. Since its launch in 2012, approximately 4,700 individuals of this species, which is classified as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), have been successfully released into their natural habitat. The programme involves relocating Mantella aurantiaca frogs from their spawning marshes within the mining footprint to the Toby Sahona Breeding Centre in Andasibe. At the centre, the frogs are bred in captivity before being reintroduced into the wild to strengthen their population.

Ambatovy adheres to international conservation standards and works in collaboration with both national and international experts and partners to ensure the program’s success.
