\t\t\t\tAs part of the protection of the New Protected Area in Torotorofotsy, located in the District of Moramanga, a collaboration agreement was signed on September 18, 2015, at the Immeuble Tranofitaratra, Ankorondrano, between Ambatovy and Asity, a non-profit organization working in environmental conservation and protection in Madagascar, and which is currently managing this Ramsar site.<\/p>\n

The agreement covers financial and technical support from Ambatovy to Asity Madagascar for a renewable five-year term, and includes the activities that will help achieve Ambatovy\u2019s offset objectives, which primarily ensure no net loss in biodiversity, and possibly, a net gain. These activities include, among others, the preparation of documents relating to the decree of the definitive protection of the New Protected Area, scientific studies and monitoring, support for the rational use of forests, the creation of income generating activities, the promotion of environmental education, and finally, the communication and publication of results.<\/p>\n

Torotorofotsy is a Ramsar site which has been identified as a wetland of international importance. It specifically contains water bird habitats and has been classified among protected sites since 2010. It is a preserved area that is the closest to the Mine, the watersheds of which overlap with Ambatovy’s conservation areas.<\/p>\n

In accordance with its Environmental Management and Social Development Plan, or (PGEDS), which was designed according to regulatory requirements at the national and international level, Ambatovy has implemented environmental compensation programs in its sites. Ambatovy’s Environmental Management Program is characterized by the mitigation hierarchy process (avoidance of impacts, minimization, restoration, and compensation).<\/p>\n

Dans le cadre de la protection de la Nouvelle Aire Prot\u00e9g\u00e9e de Torotorofotsy qui se trouve dans le District de Moramanga, une convention de collaboration a \u00e9t\u00e9 sign\u00e9e entre Ambatovy et Asity, une organisation \u00e0 but non lucratif \u0153uvrant dans la conservation et la protection de l\u2019environnement \u00e0 Madagascar, actuel gestionnaire de ce site Ramsar, ce 18 septembre 2015, \u00e0 l\u2019immeuble Tranofitaratra \u00e0 Ankorondrano.
\nLa convention porte sur les appuis financiers et techniques qu\u2019Ambatovy va apporter \u00e0 l\u2019association Asity pour la conduite de ses activit\u00e9s dans cette zone pour une dur\u00e9e de cinq ans renouvelable. Ce partenariat concerne les activit\u00e9s qui permettront d\u2019atteindre les objectifs de compensation d\u2019Ambatovy afin d\u2019assurer une absence de perte nette en biodiversit\u00e9 et, \u00e9ventuellement, d\u2019avoir un gain net. Ces activit\u00e9s incluent, entre autres, la confection des documents relatifs au d\u00e9cret de protection d\u00e9finitive de la Nouvelle Aire Prot\u00e9g\u00e9e, les \u00e9tudes et suivis scientifiques, l\u2019appui \u00e0 l\u2019utilisation rationnelle des for\u00eats et la cr\u00e9ation des activit\u00e9s g\u00e9n\u00e9ratrices de revenus, la promotion de l\u2019\u00e9ducation environnementale, et, enfin, la communication et la publication des r\u00e9sultats.<\/p>\n

Torotorofotsy est un site Ramsar qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 identifi\u00e9 comme une zone humide d\u2019importance internationale. Il abrite sp\u00e9cialement des habitats d\u2019oiseaux d\u2019eau et figure parmi les sites prot\u00e9g\u00e9s depuis 2010. C\u2019est la zone conserv\u00e9e la plus proche de la Mine, et dont les bassins versants superposent avec les zones de conservation d\u2019Ambatovy.<\/p>\n

Conform\u00e9ment \u00e0 son Plan de Gestion Environnementale et de D\u00e9veloppement Social ou (PGEDS), qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 con\u00e7u selon les exigences r\u00e9glementaires sur le plan national et international, Ambatovy a mis en \u0153uvre des programmes de compensation environnementale dans ses sites. Le programme de gestion environnementale d\u2019Ambatovy est caract\u00e9ris\u00e9 par un processus de hi\u00e9rarchisation de la mitigation (\u00e9vitement, minimisation et restauration des impacts et compensation).
