Ambatovy renovates a respiratory care and emergency room at the pneumology department – university hospital of Toamasina

Ambatovy has officially handed over a renewed respiratory care and emergency room to the Pneumology Department of the University Hospital of Toamasina on January 6, 2016. After its rehabilitation, the room, covering a surface of 100 m², will be able to accommodate from 8 to 12 beds, and will also serve as a decontamination room. The restoration work included the creation of dedicated latrines and a laundry area for the patients received in the unit, and the donation of 10 beds, 10 mattresses and 10 cabinets. This action is aimed at improving the management of emergencies for the population of Toamasina suffering from chronic respiratory diseases.

“Health is one of Ambatovy’s priorities and this action to support the Toamasina health care services will help ensure better care for the population as it will increase patient accommodation capacity, and optimal hygienic conditions, recognizing the fact that a clean environment in a hospital will positively impact patients’ recovery. The sustainability of this newly-renovated building will depend on the quality of its maintenance. Sustainable curative and preventive maintenance methods should be put in place by health services,” stated Isabelle Teboul, Ambatovy’s Sustainability Manager in Toamasina.

This project is one of the five social projects implemented jointly by Ambatovy and the Atsinanana Region, according to the agreement signed on August 4, 2015. It complements the previously implemented capacity building actions for the benefit of the same University Hospital, including the donation of 400 beds with mattresses, in November 2011, to improve patient accommodation conditions, and the provision of emergency response equipment (6 nebulizers, 6 air extractors and 10 oximeters), conducted in March 2015, and distributed to the Emergency Department, the Pediatrics Department and the Pneumology Department.
